There is a wide variety in the amounts professional genealogists charge but there is also a wide variety in the quality of service they provide. Whilst there are some very good professionals who only charge low fees, as the work provides only a supplementary income, the old adage is generally true: "you get what you pay for".
Traditional family history research and genetic genealogy research (DNA tests) are charged at my standard hourly rate, currently £50 per hour.
Chargeable time includes time spent researching, analysing information and preparing reports, as well as time spent on telephone calls and writing emails to the client.
Research at many of my local archives is carried out without an additional charge for travel. Any travel costs will be discussed with the client before taking on a research project.
Documents are supplied at cost price. Where copies of documents are required and a definite cost of these cannot be determined upfront, the cost will be deducted from the agreed budget and the amount of research reduced on a pro rata basis.
A family tree package makes a wonderful gift for a birthday, anniversary or other special occasion, or can just to show your appreciation. Check out the family tree package page to see what each option includes.
Family tree packages are priced at a slightly discounted rate and include many document copies.
Prices are as follows:
Package | Cost |
---|---|
Starter Family Tree | £310 |
Traditional Family Tree | £1,245 |
Direct Ancestors Tree | £1,575 |
Please note that these prices do not include international shipping.
Please refer to my
Terms of Service page regarding likelihood of success of research.
“I have known Karen Cummings for only a short while, and she has undertaken two projects researching my Suffolk family roots. Both successful, on time and within budget. She is meticulous and highly professional and has extracted information for which I have been searching on and off for about five years. If you are unsure of where to turn to next, Karen is there with guidance as to strategy while letting you feel that you are in control. There is further work to be done and I have no hesitation in saying that Karen will be my first choice as a researcher.”
Jon, West Sussex
“I have been very impressed with the thoroughness and professionalism of Dr. Karen Cummings' work concerning two of my ancestors, researching in both Suffolk and Cambridgeshire. The work was carried out within the timescale allotted and within budget. Her suggestions for further research, both within her local areas and outside by others were very helpful, and I would have no hesitation in commissioning further work from her.”
Denis, Kent
